Versions of Us.

Shelby Nilsen's Versions of Us addresses the process of reflecting on all of the lives we have lived, and people we have been... The ones who have made us who we are today.

In this work, memories are personified, and visit people when they are most needed.

Representing that the relationship one has with their memories is tangible and alive.

Why do we remember things when we do?

How do we handle and process this experience?

Versions of Us invites both audience and artist to rest with the dissonant feelings of nostalgia and rediscovery that are evoked by the process of moving on.

How can we be compassionate to the person we were yesterday, who we may not recognize today?

Somewhere, that person is still within us, and is deserving of care.

To grow as people is to move forward.

To embrace the people we have been, knowing that changing the past is beyond our control.
To accept that learning from ourselves allows us to begin discovering the unknown Versions of Us that we will someday come to know.

here’s to all the people we have been
and all the people we have yet to be.
